Does Healing Have a Role in the Workplace?

Speak of spiritual healing and for most people it conjures up images of airy-fairy types in floaty dresses offering miracle cures in an almost evangelical way. No? Do please correct me if I am wrong. That is certainly how I saw it before I took the plunge and decided to find out more.

Working for the Italian Government in London and subsequently as a European Sales & Marketing Director for a US company there were hundreds of times over the years I would certainly have benefitted from some healing, if only as a short break from the endless round of deadlines, financial reports and trans-Atlantic conference calls at ridiculous hours of the day and night.

“Great idea. However, not a practical solution in the modern workplace.” I hear you say. With deadlines to meet, orders to get out and the added bonus of ever-increasing staff shortages, how can I spare any of my staff for even half an hour to fit in a session of healing during their workday? This is where I hope to prove you wrong.

We are all aware of the new legislation from the HSE regarding stress management in the workplace. For employers it is yet another responsibility toward staff and possibly another headache for HR! Such a broad subject, where do you begin?

A session is pleasantly uncomplicated, no specialist equipment is needed, save perhaps for some soft music to aid relaxation. The recipient sits in a chair whilst the healer, channels positive energy around them. The healer is merely a facilitator; the recipient is the architect of his or her own healing.

Spiritual healing is gentle and non-invasive. It is a truly wholistic therapy in that it treats the whole person – body, mind and spirit. It is not necessary to have “faith” but it is important to come into the session with an open heart and mind. If nothing else, it helps to relax and enjoy the session more!

Healing is not about coaching or counselling. They key to its success is in remembering that each employee is an individual with his or her own personal needs and desires but also a member of the larger whole. Sometimes the subtlest of changes in the individual can have the most dramatic results. It can create a ripple effect that can contribute to an overall difference throughout the surrounding environment.

There is nothing mystical about it. It is not a miracle cure. It is about harnessing the resources of each person to promote their own sense of well-being. You and your workforce can feel refreshed and revitalised. It is important that every member of staff feels valued and so by bringing healing into the working environment you are offering the opportunity for everyone to take responsibility for their own internal and working environment.

So, introducing even a short programme of healing and relaxation is not just a reward for your staff but also the unique opportunity for the company to benefit as a whole. Healing can help to:
